The AMSTERDAM in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen has been a men's sauna for more than fifty years and deliberately keeps things quiet: no foam parties, no loud music. Its spa area holds a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna and a steam sauna plus a whirlpool, with lockable rest rooms and a summer garden outside. A restaurant and bar sit alongside and can be used without a sauna visit. Closed Mondays.

Saunawerk is a gay men's sauna on Eschersheimer Landstraße in Frankfurt's Nordend, spread over several floors. Guests move between a Finnish sauna at about 80°C, a gentler bio sauna at about 60°C, an aroma steam bath with tepidarium and a Turkish hamam under a starry-sky ceiling, then cool off in an eleven-metre heated pool or a bubbling whirlpool. Single admission is sold at the door, with a reduced rate for under-25s and a discounted night-sauna tariff.
